The Botanical Garden of Rennes occupies an area of just under half a hectare (approx. 4600 m²).
Its altitude is about 50 m.
The local climate is oceanic, slightly mitigated by the distance from the sea (55 km as the crow flies, to the north).
The soil is clayey, very heavy and compact at the beginning but considerably lightened by decades, even centuries, of cultivation.
